Round #8 World Superbike Championship 23 June 2015

Misano Adriatico (IT) - June 21st 2015
Ups and downs for FALCO riders at Misano "Marco Simoncelli" Circuit were 65.540 spectators attended the exciting eighth round of the World Superbike Championship.
After conquering a positive 11th place in Race 1, Leandro Mercado (Team Barni Racing Ducati) had an unfortunate day end; during the second race of the day the rider encountered a slide, which ended the extraordinary sequence of results into the scoring zone had till now since the beginning of the championship.
Race 1 started under the warm summer sunshine. Protagonist of a great start, Tati remained closed to the front rivals studying their trajectories, waiting for the right moment to overtake them and get into the top ten.
In the second part of the race, the excessive rear tyre consumption forced him to lower his pace for the rest of the competition ending with an important 11th place in view of the cahmpionship standing.
With the purpose of finishing in the best way possible Race 2 the team technicians and Mercado made further changes on their Panigale setting, in order to decrease the tyre consumption during the 21 laps.
After another good start from the fifth row in lap three, once he was trying to stay close to his rivals, Mercado encountered a slide at the turn “Quercia“, which forced him to retire.
Despite the unfortunate ending of Race 2, the seasonal balance remains positive thanks to the results obtained in the 16th races till today.
Leandro Mercado, #36: “Race 1 was good and didn’t go that bad. In the first laps I had a good pace, but in the final stages the rear tyre was finished and I couldn’t keep the same rhythm. Before Race 2 we did a last modification on the bike to try to avoid the tyre consumption, but at lap three I slid at the turn “Quercia“. Really, it’s a pity to have end the weekend like this but we will try again in Laguna Seca. I would like to thank all the team for the great job done”.
At the end of the eighth round, Leandro Mercado (90 points) remains nighth in the general classification.
Despite all positive expectations unfortunate round for local rider Matteo Baiocco (Team Althea Ducati) with a 15th position due to tyre issue on round 1 and a slide in race 2 with only 5 laps to go.
Matteo Baiocco, #15: “Surely these are not the races I expected. On race 1 the tyre didn't allow to close the gap with riders on the front whilst on race 2 grip issues on the front cause the following slide. Anyway from problems we always learn and come back with improvements on the following round".
Matteo Baiocco (89 points) is currently tenth in the general standing.
Young talent Christophe Ponsson (Team Kawasaki Pedercini) had also a rough weekend with recurring engine problems that allowed him to gain a double 18th position on the two races but precious experience for the future races.
Next round will be on the 19th July, on the famous American track of Laguna Seca.
